The question was popped, the ring is on and you’re officially ENGAGED! Congratulations! Now, the real journey begins – planning the wedding.
The first milestone on this journey will likely be securing the venue. With an abundance of event spaces in a range of styles, shapes and sizes available, shortlisting your favourite venues can be a daunting task. We recommend having a clear idea of your estimated guest numbers and preferred venue location so that you can search by this criteria to narrow down your options.
Once you have shortlisted your favourites, your first step should be booking site inspections at each of the venues. We find that once a client has seen a space in all its glory, deciding which venue becomes a lot easier.
So, what’s the next step? You have fallen in love with your dream venue and are already visualising your perfect day, but how do you make sure you aren’t forced to use your back-up?
We asked our Wedding Sales Manager, Sian Curtis, for her top three tips on how to secure your dream wedding venue…
Knowing the date of your wedding is key to securing a venue. While many couples aim to secure a Saturday wedding for maximum attendance, the best venues will likely have all Saturday’s booked for at least the next 12 months. If your heart is set on tying the knot on a Saturday, you need to enquire well in advance! If time allows, I recommend requesting venue availability roughly 18 – 24 months in advance of your preferred date.
Considering the demand for Saturday dates, being flexible when deciding on a date can pay off. While less common, Fridays and Sundays offer their own distinct advantages.
Friday weddings offer more recovery time if your guests know how to party! Venues are generally open to negotiating a little more on Fridays given that they are not in as high demand as their weekend counterpart.
Sundays are great for those of you looking for a beautiful venue that’s a little softer on the budget as many spaces offer either a slightly reduced minimum spend or value packed offers on Sundays. A Sunday wedding also gives your guests the perfect excuse to take a long weekend – it’s a win win situation!
Your date is available, you love the venue, but how do you secure your booking? In most cases, the venue requires a signed contract and a deposit payment in order to confirm your date. Most of the finer details for your special day can be confirmed after the contract is signed, so don’t worry about having to make all the decisions now. As for the deposit, depending on the venue, it will usually be around 25% of the total cost, so be prepared to commit…or you may lose the space!
