The end of the year is approaching and although it has proven to be a challenging year, we are still so grateful to reflect back on the beautiful events we were able to host this year.
The year undoubtedly looked different thanks to COVID-19. We hosted 81 events at our fabulous venue and welcomed 9,991 guests, five of these were even hosted in between lockdown’s. To give you some context, in 2019, we hosted a total of 218 events! So, while the year was a lot smaller than usual, we still managed to create some beautiful memories along the way. Understandably, we are looking forward to the departure of 2020, and the optimism that a new year brings with it. But until then, we thought it would be fitting to reflect on some of our favourite moments of 2020.
Liana + Nicholas
Okay so, technically this was a 2019 wedding but, it was on New Year’s Eve which means we started the year celebrating the love of this beautiful couple. This was a truly remarkable event to welcome in the New Year – midnight struck and guests were treated to indoor fireworks and showered with confetti, as they stood in awe of the spectacular firework display across the city. Liana and Nicholas celebrated midnight on the dancefloor – literally jumping for joy and then braved the New Year’s Eve crowd to get some fabulous action shots with their photographer Theo from Theodore and Co. The crowd cheered as this gorgeous couple pushed through them to capture the perfect shot. What a way to seal the deal with a New Year’s Eve kiss……. fireworks really did fly!

Good Mornings with Happy Melon
We teamed up with Happy Melon Studios for a morning of ‘mindfulness and movement’ to support Bushfire Relief Victoria. A portion of every ticket sold, was donated to the bushfire relief fund in order to support families and wildlife, as they tried to rebuild their lives after such a devastating chain of events. The early morning movement session included a 1-hour yoga session and a take home goodie bag, courtesy of Happy Melons Studios.
Anna + Shirley
As they say, “love is love” and this wedding showed us exactly what true love is.
Anna and Shirley planned to create a night of magic and theatre to celebrate their love. Their stylist Anna Wang was asked by the girls to create their dream wedding, and that’s exactly what she did. Anna and her team drove through the night from Sydney to bring it all to life – hundreds of white roses were used for the arbor and table centre pieces, while a cloud of wisteria hung from the installation over dance floor. Anna and Shirley cried tears of joy as they entered the room for the first time – it was exactly as they had imagined. Lion dancing, pyrotechnics and the girls stunning wardrobe changes kept their guests exclaiming with delight all evening. The one moment we will never forget though, was their first dance on our balcony, overlooking the city skyline. As they blissfully danced the night away, fireworks lit up the night sky, much like their smiles, showing us just what happy ever after means.

Ferrari: 2020 F1 Grand Prix Dinner
In March, we hosted Ferrari Club Australia for their annual dinner on the eve of the Australian F1 Grand Prix. In attendance were Ferrari Club Australia members, Ferrari enthusiasts and friends. The event usually marks the start of the four-day trackside event at Albert Park and is a fund raiser for the club. We were lucky enough to celebrate this occasion just before the lockdown swept across Melbourne the following day, cancelling the Grand Prix event for the first time in history. Despite the cancellation of the Grand Prix, the annual dinner still took the stage as the event of the year.
Josh + Moniques Proposal
A proposal for the ages – a surprise on our fabulous terrace in the midst of the pandemic.
Monique already knew where she wanted to celebrate her wedding day. She had no idea the proposal would happen there too. With some careful planning between Emmett (our Sales Manager) and Josh, the perfect proposal plan came to life. Fake dinner plans at Southbank, an apparently chance visit to Metropolis (or so Monique thought) and the family hidden in the wings waiting to celebrate that moment. After proposing on our terrace, against the city night sky – yes, she accepted. The family cheered and joined the happy couple to celebrate with plenty of bubbles, followed by a fabulous dinner in the Panorama room windows. It seems like dreams do come true. We can’t wait to celebrate with them again when they say ‘I do’ next December. How fabulous to be there at the start of their journey to being a married couple and waving goodbye as leave as Mr & Mrs!

Lidia + Dean
Lidia and Dean decided that Coronavirus was not going to stop them getting married. So, with some quick planning they decided our Wedstival was the answer – a small celebration with family on their official wedding day in June and then a big celebration with everyone on their first anniversary. It was the perfect excuse for two parties, two dresses and two suits.
After their 80’s themed ceremony at Alter Electric, they headed to Metropolis for their mini-reception. A simple, but beautiful, intimate dinner for fifteen, set in our New York style windows with the city as a backdrop. As Lidia and Dean told us in our blog post – the day was nothing like they dreamt or expected, but that’s what made it great. They could just be themselves, focus on their families and relax. The other bonus was that Lidia got to have the 80’s themed ceremony she wanted – the original guest list was too big to make this happen.
This is just one of the many silver linings we’ve been lucky enough to enjoy part of in 2020.
Rachel + Maitland
Between Melbourne lockdowns, we got to host an elopement like no other.
Just the beautiful couple, jaw dropping styling and a whole lot of love. We were in awe. Rachel and Maitland decided not to wait to celebrate their love and opted for an intimate elopement instead. It was everything that the traditional wedding is not and that’s what made it absolutely perfect. They were able to wed, with loved ones watching on virtually. They also captured the most remarkable photos, with the memory of this special day, sure to last a life time.

Zana Pali Baby Shower
This luxurious baby shower for a glowing mum to be, is something everyone needs to see.
An all blue and white themed luncheon (the gender was a dead giveaway) for 25 of her closest family and friends. This special milestone began with a selection of delicious canapés, followed by a live paella station and finished with an intimate high tea. This was a truly memorable day.

Daniella + Anthony
The first big wedding post lockdown and my, did this feel incredible!
Daniella is a remarkable illustrator, so of course she wasn’t going to let anyone else design her menus or the gorgeous backdrop, featured in the images below. No detail was left to chance – dove grey linen provided the perfect backdrop for the spectacular table centre pieces filled with pale pink, cream and watermelon roses. Dancing may have been limited by restrictions, but that did not stop this couple celebrating the moment of a life time. The fabulous Ashley James (saxophonist) entertained guests throughout the night, but Zaffet Royale drummers stole the show, creating an atmosphere like no other – General Manager Helen said “it made your heart pound.” This wedding had all the things we love about a great celebration of love, and my God…. what a dress!
