Albina and Louis hosted their fairy tale wedding at Metropolis Events in May last year – and what a day it was! This stunning duo styled our fabulous venue to absolute perfection, with classic white roses, sparkling chandeliers and accents of gold to bring their dream day to life…. Every detail was faultless.
As they lovingly danced the night away with friends and family, we could not help but think what a pleasure it was to be amidst a bond as strong as theirs…
One year on and in the middle of the isolation, they celebrated their first anniversary with a romantic dinner ordered from our Metropolis at Home menu. It was a great opportunity to ask them how they met and to reflect back on their cherished day. Scroll down for the details with images taken by Theodore & Co.
How did you both meet?
We met over 12 years ago through mutual friends at a soccer match in Melbourne, where Louis said “jokingly” that he would marry me one day. In the beginning, we developed a strong friendship which then turned into something more and the rest is history!
Tell us about the proposal?
When you’ve been with someone for so many years, you know that at some point, a proposal is on the cards, but Louis completely caught me off guard when he proposed one sunny November afternoon. We had made dinner reservations at a restaurant in Port Melbourne, but on the way there, Louis was worried about car troubles (which turned out to be a decoy) and had to pull over near Port Melbourne beach. We got out of the car and he led me down to the sand where he got down on one knee and popped the question! After a lot of tears and sore cheeks from smiling ear to ear, we finally got to the restaurant where he had organised a surprise dinner with our families. It was the most perfect and intimate way to celebrate our engagement and it still amazes me to this day that our parents and siblings were all able to keep it a secret from me!
Why did you choose Metropolis as your venue?
When we visited Metropolis for the first time, we instantly knew it was the perfect venue for us. We had seen photos of the venue online but seeing it in person really amazed us. The stunning windows and priceless city views were features that we had not come across at any other wedding venue, and seeing the venue come to life on the night made it all the more breathtaking! We still get so many compliments about the venue, the food and the service on the night. We might be biased, but we think it’s the best venue in Melbourne! We also loved the fact that the venue was fairly new and we didn’t know anybody else who had been married at Metropolis, so it really did feel special and unique to us to celebrate our marriage there.
What was your favourite part of planning a wedding?
We aren’t going to lie – planning a wedding can be tough and it totally consumes your life! We enjoyed being creative with our ideas but mostly, our favourite part was meeting and working with our amazing and talented wedding suppliers. They made the process so enjoyable and without them, the day wouldn’t have been nearly as perfect as it was!
One year on, what was the most memorable part of the day?
It’s difficult to pick just one moment, as there were so many special ones that made the day so perfect. Apart from the ceremony, our most memorable part of the day would have to be sharing our first dance as husband and wife surrounded by our family and friends.
Looking back, is there anything you would have done differently?
Luckily for us, there isn’t anything that we would have done differently. We put so much time and effort into making every aspect and detail of the day perfect for us, if only the day could have lasted a bit longer!
Do you have any advice for other couples?
Don’t lose sight of the importance and significance of the day that you are planning, as it is very easy to get caught up in the craziness of it all while planning for your big day. And remember that there’s no such thing as a wedding rule book – make choices that are right for you as a couple.
What is next for Albina & Louis?
After getting married just over a year ago, we went on an amazing European honeymoon for six weeks and then moved into our first home. We would love to do some more traveling together and plan to continue working on small projects around the house, as well as start a family in the near future.
Happy anniversary Louis & Albina! We wish you a lifetime of happiness together. One year down, forever to go….
If you are ready to start your journey towards happily ever after, we would love to introduce you to Metropolis.
